Heroes All
My Friends:
A few days ago I happened to wear my PDA t-shirt to one of my son's
athletic events. Call me crazy, but I don't always wear the same colors as
the other parents. I consider my PDA shirts a badge of honor and wear them
with a great deal of pride. Usually they go unnoticed. On this particular
day as I walked through the bleachers to return to my seat, a man looked at
me and commented to his family "There goes a hero."
"Excuse me?" I asked.
"I said you are a hero." He replied. "You are one of those folks that
went down to Biloxi with my church, Rosedale Gardens."
I thanked him for his kind words and returned to my seat. I then spent
the next hour or so kind of dazed by his compliment. I'm not sure anyone
has ever called me a hero before. Certainly not a stranger.
Please understand this story is not about me. It is about all of you.
If I am in any way a hero to someone than each of you are too. We did what
we did as a team and so we share the praise as a team.
As you enjoy this Christmas season and we celebrate the birth of the
greatest of all heroes, please be assured that each and every one of you is
thought of as a hero not only for your participation in mission work, but
for who you are.
Merry Christmas to all of you!
